We here at SPSA believe that in order to provide high quality solutions for handling your municipal solid waste, we must continue to work toward a regional system that is sustainable. We work hard every day to ensure that you will continue to enjoy adequate disposal capacity at a competitive cost for many years to come. We believe the guiding principles which help build and promote a sustainable waste disposal system are:
As a matter of fact, we feel so strongly about these guiding principles that we have made each of them one of our Core Values that all of our employee’s promote.
Pardon us while we brag a little, but did you know that SPSA is completely debt-free and fully financially prepared for the future? That’s why tipping fees — the municipal price paid per ton of waste — are the lowest they have been in 12 years. SPSA isn’t in the business of making money. We’re about providing a quality service at a reasonable price for our member communities. Not that it’s an easy thing to do!
It takes a lot of know-how and skillful application to ensure that communities are getting what they pay for, but we are confident that our team is expert at looking out for the bottom line while still providing top-notch service. Check out our audited financial statements on our website. We want you to be confident of that, too.
Our lives are getting more and more hectic by the day. Trash is something that shouldn’t be an extra hassle. Fortunately, most of the time, communities are able to take care of things curbside. But when you find yourself with a disposal need that is outside of your usual pick up, you need a solution designed to work for you. The same is true for our municipal and commercial partners. We want you to be able to get your trucks in and out as quickly as possible, so that you can get back on the road and back to business. The Regional Landfill and our 9 Transfer Stations are designed to do just that.
And convenience isn’t just limited to Transfer Stations and the Regional Landfill. We want to make sure that our website is easy to navigate and that when you call the administrative office or a Scalehouse you can actually speak to someone who wants to help you. Our services aren’t worth much if they are hard to use. We’re working to make sure that it’s easy for you to let us take it from here.
Community isn’t just about location. It’s about people working together for a common goal. SPSA wants to be a trusted partner of all eight of the communities we serve. Our meetings are open to the public and our Citizens Advisory Committees are an invaluable resource. Got a question or concern? You can call or message us any time. We want to hear from you because learning how we can serve you better is all part of the process.
We also hope that you can truly rely on us to be handling all of the big and little issues so that you don’t have to. SPSA was founded on the idea that communities shouldn’t have to go it alone when it comes to their waste management. We want to be a champion for all of our residents and municipalities. Because SPSA doesn’t just serve the community, we’re a part of the community, too.
Formed in 1976, SPSA has been around for a long time. But longevity alone isn’t enough to prove that we’ll be around forever. The communities we serve are growing and changing and we are committed to grow and change along with them. We work every day to ensure that you have a dependable service to rely on that meets your immediate needs, but is also asking the question, “What will our waste management needs be in 20 years? In 50 years?
This involves practical applications for today, like making sure that our fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment, and facilities are well maintained so you see no disruption in service. But it also means creative thinking for the future, like exploring new refuse derived fuel and production options, alongside of state-of-the-art landfill utilization.
“Environmental Responsibility” is a really popular phrase these days. But what does it actually mean in practical terms? At SPSA, it means that we are continuously testing for air, water, and ground pollutants. Our permits require it, but we also think it’s just the right thing to do. That’s why we go above and beyond the standard requirements to make sure that conditions are always safe — today and well into the future. We’re also making sure that waste isn’t getting into our waterways and utilizing and creating alternative energy sources. As an organization, we make green choices at our administrative offices by recycling paper and reusing plastics.
There is a lot that goes into running a sustainable waste disposal system. Probably more than most people have ever considered. And you know what? That’s fine with us. We don’t want you to have to think about what we do at all. We just want to be there for you when you need us and to be working hard behind the scenes to make sure that you have an environmentally sound, cost-effective, reliable service that you and your neighbors can trust for years to come. We truly thank you for partnering with us and consider it an honor to serve you — yesterday, today, and well into tomorrow.
